Course overview

The Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Enterprise is for learners who want to acquire sector-specific applied knowledge and practices through practical, work-related scenarios.

The qualification enables learners to develop their transferable skills, such as researching, planning, making decisions and judgements, and financial literacy using real-world business settings. It also supports personal skill development, including creativity and innovation, time management, reviewing, communication and planning through a practical and skills-based approach to learning and assessment.

Topics covered

The Tech Award gives learners the opportunity to develop sector-specific applied knowledge and understanding through realistic vocational contexts. Learners will have the opportunity to develop applied knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Component 1: Exploring enterprises

Understanding different types of enterprises, how and why they are successful, how the skills and characteristics of the entrepreneur contribute to the successful activities of an enterprise, how market research helps understand customer needs and competitor activities and how internal and external factors affect enterprises

  • Component 2 :Planning and presenting a microenterprise idea

Choosing and planning an enterprise idea, including market research, skill audit and creating a business plan, presenting that plan and reviewing performance of presentation

  • Component 3: Marketing and finance for enterprise

Explore a variety of marketing activities used by enterprises to create a marketing mix in order to promote their goods or services. Examine strategies used to build brand awareness through market segmentation. Learn how to interpret and use a range of financial documents for day to day business operation, financial planning, to include cash flow forecast and break-even analysis. Finally learn about the wide variety of sources of finance available to enterprises to finance growth and expansion.

Assessment

  • Component 1 (30%): Internally assessed assignment set by Pearson. This is an 11-hour assignment (5 hours prep, 6 hours supervised assessment) in year 10
  • Component 2 (30%): Internally assessed assignment set by Pearson. This is a 13-hour assignment (6 hours prep, 7 hours supervised assessment) in year 11
  • Component 3 (40%): Externally assessed 2 hour exam at the end of year 11
